Advanced data collection and analysis methods are crucial for a more precise understanding of traffic demands, the status of infrastructure conditions and users’ behavior, but they are equally valuable to predict critical situations and support decisions. Currently, data-driven approaches are already successfully applied across all modes of transport to improve services and processes. Their use will certainly increase in the upcoming years as innovative solutions are necessary to achieve climate goals and increase mobility safety, security, reliability and comfort.

The aim of the fifth mFUND seminar is, on the one hand, to enable networking between projects with a similar thematic focus. On the other hand, the event also intends to inform policymakers and practitioners about new developments, opportunities and innovations in the field of digitalisation and data applications. In return, through contacts with partners from public entities or businesses, research and innovation projects can receive important guidance for the implementation of their projects and for exploring potential business opportunities.

A key note about the use of innovative solutions for mobility and transport improvement in Europe will open the workshop. Afterwards, inspiring ideas and outcomes from projects using data-driven approaches to improve mobility safety and sustainability will be presented and serve as input for exchanges with participants.

Bring your knowledge and ideas to the discussion.

We look forward to your participation!

About the online mFUND-Workshop series “Data Innovations for Smart Mobility in Europe”

Data has become an important driver in all areas of our modern society and its importance is increasing every day. Data is the basis for most digital innovations. It offers enormous potential for new business models and products.

In the transport sector, digital technologies and data are used on a large scale to increase efficiency, reliability and safety of services and infrastructure and economy. At the same time, data based solutions contribute to reducing the use of resources and tackle climate change. Citizens can greatly benefit from data-based solutions, which can enable seamless multimodal traffic, increase safety and improve the mobility experience in all types of environments.

With the virtual conference “Open Data for Smart Mobility in Europe”, held under the auspices of the German EU Council Presidency on 17 November 2020, the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure has initiated a European dialogue on examples for data innovations in the mobility field across Europe.

To continue this knowledge exchange and to facilitate new partnerships between European projects and actors, the BMVI mFUND programme has established a new online workshops series on Data Innovations for Smart Mobility. Until the end of 2021, six events on different transportation topics will be implemented.
