The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) turned 157 years on 17 May 2022. Despite its age, ITU is just as important today as it was when it was founded in 1865.

By promoting progress in telecommunications ITU seeks solutions to bridge the digital divide between developed and less developed countries. People everywhere benefit from ITU improving modern communication technologies. Moreover, ITU develops technical standards and helps distributing the radio frequency spectrum and satellite orbital positions. Finally, ITU plays a pre-eminent role in standardization.

As candidate for the position of Director Standardization, Dr. Thomas Zielke wants to help create standards which are accepted everywhere. His goal is to find more members and contributors to support the ITU. If elected, he will be a team-worker with his fellow leaders of the organization and conduct a process on how ITU-T could focus on the right key issues in standardization for the business community and industry. In this way, he will conduct, shape and speed up this process. This also means building new bridges between business, research, civil society and the ITU-T.

Because standardization delivers order, reliability, and safety in a world of today and tomorrow.
