The number of road fatalities is at its lowest level in more than 60 years. According to the Federal Statistical Office, 2,562 people died in road accidents in Germany in 2021 - 5.8 percent or 157 people fewer than in the previous year.
But every road fatality is one too many. The Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport is pursuing the objective of the Vision Zero strategy: no more people being killed in road accidents.
