According to data provided by the Federal Statistical Office, 2,788 persons died in road accidents in Germany in 2022; 8.8% or 226 persons more than the year before, which – similar to 2020 – was still affected by considerable reductions in traffic volumes due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Compared to 2019 before the Covid-19 pandemic, the number of road fatalities has decreased by 8%.
But every road fatality is one too many. The Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport is pursuing the objective of the Vision Zero strategy: no more people being killed in road accidents.
